Old time diving makes a splash
THE 11th annual Standard Dress historical diving weekend has been declared a resounding success by participants and event organiser Frank Zeigler.
The Professional Divers Group hosted more than 40 divers from the Historic Diving Society of Australia – Pacific on the weekend, diving off the Trawler Wharf using magnificent diving equipment dating back to the 1860s.
“We had a ball,” Mr Zeigler said.
“There was an eclectic group of people from the Historical Diving Society, from as far away as Western Australia and Queensland.
“All ages and genders were represented.
“This event is living history; we’re using yesterday’s equipment to share those skills today to preserve the practices for the future.”
