Adding some fun to crocheting
FORGET fixed patterns and hard rules: a fun style of crochet is being woven together through the Portland Neighbourhood House program from this Friday.
Known at “scrumble crochet,” avid crafter Vicki Goyen has been going freeform with her crochet, adding texture and a mixture of colours from scraps of wool and creating truly unique pieces in the process.
She and fellow volunteer Julie Gilmer are encouraging people to come along and give the crochet technique a go, from 11am to 12.30pm this Friday and next Friday, August 9.
“It’s a fun, creative way to play with yarn and colour, and sometimes I just pull it out and start again if I don’t like it” Ms Goyen said.
Neighbourhood House support worker Suzanne Roll said trying scrumble was great because she didn’t have to be super-focused as she crocheted.
