AFL recommends junior competition merger
AFL Western District has released the draft edition of the South West Junior Review and the principle recommendation of the report is a merger between junior football competitions in Portland and Hamilton.
On May 27, the AFL Western District Commission announced that it was producing a review into the future of junior football within the south west Victoria region.
The focus of the review was examining the structure of the Portland Junior Football Association and Hamilton Kangaroos Junior Football League and making recommendations regarding the optimal structure for both competitions in 2020 and beyond.
Yesterday, AFL Western District released the draft edition of the review, featuring 26 recommendations.
The first, and biggest of them all, is that the PJFA and HKJFA merge together and form the Greater South West Junior Football League.
The review suggests that current PJFA clubs Heywood, Heathmere, North Portland and West Portland form a competition with two as of yet to be determined Hamilton Kangaroos affiliated junior clubs.
