Eager Tigers crush Kangaroos in first victory
PORTLAND is on the board for the first time within the Deakin University Female Football League’s senior women’s competition, destroying Hamilton Kangaroos on Sunday.
The Tigers and Kangaroos went head-to-head at Pedrina Park in Hamilton in the third round of the inaugural season, and it was an encounter the yellow-and-black faithful will remember fondly for some time to come.
Portland defeated Hamilton Kangaroos 8.18 (66) to 0.3 (3).
In the opening quarter Portland set up a pivotal advantage, holding the Kangaroos to three behinds at one end, while at the other the Tigers piled on four goals.
From that point onwards the Tigers refused to relent, extending the margin in each term and preventing Hamilton for the remainder of the match.
Portland senior coach Damien Bell said gaining an early advantage was pivotal in the final outcome of the match.
“We kicked our first three goals early on and that got us really up and about,” Bell said.
