Hockey stars celebrate job well done at states
SEVEN junior members of the Portland Hockey Club are celebrating a job well done this week after travelling to Melbourne to represent the region at the Hockey Victoria Junior State Championships.
Playing under the South West Country Eagles banner, Portland’s Jett Piergrosse, Gabby Conheady, Jenna-May Bristow, Nick Bristow, Reagan Simons, Leila Edwards and Nyla Conheady made the trip to compete.
The South West Country Eagles are comprised of junior players from local associations within the south west Victoria region, including Portland, Warrnambool, Glenelg and Ballarat.
Play began on Tuesday, with finals taking place on Friday.
Six metropolitan and four regional zones took part in the 2019 edition of the tournament, separated into under-18, under-15 and under-13 divisions.
Portland organiser Nikki Edwards said the club was thrilled with the way the championships unfolded.
“Our players were spread out across five teams and the whole tournament was just fantastic,” Edwards said.
