South West Games coming to the Glenelg Shire
THE Glenelg Shire is set to host this year’s South West Games between November 2-17 with a big emphasis on social and modified sports.
The South West Games has been running throughout South West Victoria for 36 years with a number of events encouraging and celebrating community sport.
More than 60 events have previously been included in the games along with 6,000 participants taking part in the annual competition.
While the Glenelg Shire will oversee the event, sporting clubs from around the region are encouraged to host specific competitions and get involved in their sport.
Last year’s event was hosted by the Southern Grampians Shire with two events including the 3 Bays Marathon and whaleboat racing taking place in Portland.
Any sporting club is encouraged to nominate to host an event with an information session being held at the Glenelg Shire office on July 31 at 7pm-8pm.
The Glenelg Shire will be hosting monthly meetings with the South West Games co-ordinators to discuss the ongoing planning of the tournament until it begins in November.
