Arrest made over South Portland burglary
PORTLAND detectives arrested a Portland man on Monday afternoon and charged him with aggravated burglary after he was alleged to have entered a house without permission while a person was present.
Detective Sergeant Jason Von Tunk said the 36-year-old man was charged with the offence that was alleged to have occurred on Barkly St recently.
He was remanded in custody and scheduled to appear in the Portland Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The man was also expected to be charged in connection with at least six other recent burglaries in the area, which started on July 22.
Forensic evidence had connected the accused to the Barkly St scene, Sergeant Von Tunk said, and more than 30 items were seized from a Peter St Portland residence following a police search of the property on Monday afternoon.
The most recent incidents occurred over the weekend when thousands of dollars worth of goods were stolen and damage caused to property of at least three south Portland businesses.
