Beach pontoon arrives
AFTER several months of anticipation, the Portland Foreshore swimming pontoon arrived this week.
The pontoon, which was a joint project of the youth organisation Future Leaders of Industry cohort and the Glenelg FreeZa committee, is due to be installed in October off Henty Beach near the skate park.
The project – worth about $34,000 – was funded by the Victorian Government’s Pick My Project initiative in 2018.
It was the only project in the Glenelg Shire to be funded from the list of 35 local submissions.
Glenelg Shire Mayor Anita Rank said the swimming pontoon is a significant project for council.
“The Foreshore is one of the shire’s most visited and most popular sites, with numbers particularly swelling during the summer season,” Cr Rank said.
