Bigger than ever! Record enrolments at Portland Bay School
JUST one year after opening the doors to its $7 million Henty St facility, Portland Bay School is now home to a record number of students.
Currently, the school educates 61 children from Foundation Level to Year 12, up from 50 a year earlier.
Principal Stephen Crossley said the school population shows no sign of slowing down.
“This year we have 61 students, which is the most we’ve ever had, and we’ll have similar numbers next year,” Mr Crossley said.
“We are filling up these buildings.
“Enrolments for next year are already starting to come; however, it’s a bit of a process for our school, as you have to be assessed to be eligible in the special education system.
“We’re a good school and the new buildings have put us in the community’s focus.
“It’s allowed us to show parents that at the junior levels we function similarly to a primary school.
“The only difference is we offer more adult support.”
