Eldridge lands on podium at Aussie Surf Championships
A LAST-MINUTE decision to participate in the 2019 Australian Surf Championships has paid dividends for local surfer Clare Eldridge, landing on the podium in New South Wales recently.
Taking place in Duranbah Beach, on the Tweed Coast in New South Wales between August 10-14, Eldridge contested the over-35 shortboard division across two days and finished the final in second place.
More than 500 surfers took part in this year’s event and Eldridge said it was an experience she was grateful she decided to take part in.
“It was just something I decided to compete in on a bit of a whim,” she said.
“I surfed on two separate days and we really couldn’t have asked for better conditions.
“It was pretty cool too, because they get rid of the crowd for you for the competition, which takes a lot of pressure off.
“It was great to get the opportunity to surf on a beach like that, without having to deal with a crowd.”
