Elite football exports closing in on finals
FINALS football is rapidly approaching for both the AFL and VFL competitions and a number of this region’s elite level exports are looking likely to play a big part in what’s to come.
Dartmoor’s Jeremy Cameron returned to action on Friday night in Canberra, bouncing back from a one-week stint on the sidelines and lining up for Greater Western Sydney against Hawthorn.
Played in freezing conditions, which at one point even featured snow, it was a night to forget for the Giants, defeated by 56 points.
Cameron, 26, finished with one goal for the night, bringing his season tally to 58.
With just two rounds remaining in the home and away season Cameron remains a strong favourite to win the Coleman Medal, the AFL’s leading goal kicker award, with a six-goal advantage over North Melbourne’s Ben Brown with 52 goals.
While winning the Coleman Medal for the first time would be a huge individual achievement for Cameron, he said at this stage in the season his focus was firmly fixed on the team.
“I’m not really working towards any specific goals personally,” he said in a recent interview with the Portland Observer.
