Entangled seal spotted
A SEAL seen at Bridgewater Bay with some blue rope around its neck was photographed by local resident Catherine Bailey on Friday before she called for help.
Ms Bailey said she saw the seal at the boat jetty on Friday and feared for the welfare of the creature.
She advised the Melbourne Zoo Marine Response Unit, who said they are working with local agencies to see if the seal can be located again and then freed from its entanglement.
The unit’s head veterinarian Dr Michael Lynch said they were assessing the seal’s physical signs of wellbeing from information and images supplied to them and would continue to gather information about its welfare ahead of any potential response.
“Its capture is likely to be challenging given its last reported location was on rocky coastline,” Dr Lynch said.
