Heywood send the Meres packing
HEYWOOD kept its dream of back-to-back South West District Football League premierships alive with a strong victory against Heathmere in Sunday’s first semi-final at Alexandra Park, 15.9 (99) to 6.11 (47).
The Lions bought an end to the Meres’ season, dominating from the outset and suffocating Heathmere’s ball movement.
After a crushing win over Dartmoor in last week’s elimination final, the Lions backed it up in week two of the finals, and will now take on Westerns in next Saturday’s preliminary final at Coleraine.
Both sides took time to ease into the match with Heywood developing a slight six-point lead at the end of the first quarter.
Heywood’s Dane Handreck was monumental up forward throughout the second quarter, taking a number of contested marks and converting strongly.
The Lions pushed their lead out at half time, 46-28.
