Plan to change Percy St; traffic flow, speed limits on the radar
PROPOSED changes to Portland’s main street could be just the start of more wide-ranging improvements.
Glenelg Shire Council is looking at ways of improving safety on Percy St between Wade and Tyers Sts, and held a public consultation session at Portland library last week.
The session was well-attended, with a steady stream of people coming in to offer ideas, raise concerns or express support.
A draft concept plan is looking at options such as a raised median between Tyers and Fern Sts, a review of the speed limit between those two streets from 60km/h to 50km/h, changing the section between Fern and Wade Sts to single-lane each way instead of double, intersection improvements and traffic management techniques.
But that could just be the start.
