Results elude Tigers netballers in heavy rain
THE weight of frustration from a gruelling campaign through the Hampden Netball League and some far from ideal playing conditions took its toll on Portland’s leading netball side on Saturday, comfortably defeated by Terang-Mortlake.
With three rounds remaining in the open season, ninth-placed Portland made the trip to DC Farren Oval to face finals hopefuls Terang-Mortlake in heavy rain and occasional bursts of hail.
Terang-Mortlake finished with a resolute 71-21 victory off the back of a freakish performance from defender turned shooter Melissa Burt.
Burt, who traditionally plays as a keeper, made the transition into shooter this week due to an injury to one of the team’s usual shooters, Jessica Davis.
While the rain made free-flowing play difficult for nearly every player on the court, for Burt the conditions appeared close to perfect, nailing a remarkable 47 goals alongside Jacqui Arundell with 24.
