Roos fight another week, Meres bow out
WESTERNS has come out on top after a tough tussle with Heathmere, 52-50, to earn another chance in the South West District Netball League finals series after Sunday’s knockout first semi-final.
Despite the Meres showing plenty of promise in the early stages of the game the Roos maintained their composure and marched through to the preliminary final.
Some late withdrawals, including Westerns shooter Hannah Frew, forced the Roos to adjust their game plan.
Heathmere came out firing in the first term with shooter Kayla Pickert dominating the attacking circle with her vertical leap preventing the defenders from getting a hand to the ball.
The Meres developed a six-goal lead early in the quarter before the Roos eased into their line up and began closing in on the margin.
