Sea changes makes dream come true
PORTLAND’S iconic architecture is an interesting mix of historic bluestone buildings and swanky modern homes overlooking the sea.
Now James and Kylee Gill’s custom-built log home can be added to that list.
For the past week, the Gills have been eagerly watching their dream home being built on Otway St, a milestone that Mr Gill has been anticipating for most of his life.
“Since my early 20s, I’ve dreamt of owning a log home,” Mr Gill said.
“I first saw the Californian ranches with the big log cabins on TV and I knew I wanted one.
“I sat on that idea for the past forty years.”
After retiring in January, Mr Gill brought his dream to life, moving from Melbourne to Portland for a sea change.
“I’m a fisherman – I’ve been coming down to Portland for more than 10 years.
“While the tuna brought me to Portland, it was the people I met in the town that made me want to stay.”
