South Portland burglaries
TWO burglaries in Portland South on Wednesday night may have netted a person or people $3500 of goods, with police seeking information about the incidents.
Detective Senior Constable Leah Sullivan said between 11pm on Wednesday and 2am on Thursday a person walked through the unlocked rear door of a Barkly St residence and quickly removed a laptop valued at $1500 before leaving.
Disturbingly, a family were at home at the time of the incident, and while they were not disturbed by the burglar, the presence of people in the house during such an incident means the burglary is legally known as an aggravated incident.
On the same night at an unknown time a person or people also forced entry to Sobey Services on Madeira Packet Rd, stealing office products and alcohol and rifling through the business in search of valuables.
“Fingerprints and forensic evidence is being collected,” she said.
Two recent burglaries at other Barkly St premises in recent weeks are also continuing to be investigated by detectives, Leading Senior Constable Sullivan said.
