Tigers wrap up season with clash against Blues
PORTLAND’S journey through the 2019 Hampden Netball League’s open division came to a close on Saturday with one last bout, facing Warrnambool at Reid Oval.
For a fifth consecutive round the Tigers went head-to-head with a premiership hopeful aiming at a percentage boost right before finals and at the final whistle finished with a 67-32 defeat.
While it was a one-sided affair on the scoreboard, for Portland, playing without captain Remy Grant once again, it was a contest where the side reached two internal goals for the encounter – restricting Warrnambool to fewer than 70 goals (a target set by the Blues themselves) and scoring more than 30 goals themselves.
Portland playing coach Lauren Hockley said it was a tough way to finish the season but she was pleased with the effort the side showed.
“Tay (Telfer) was our best on the day but against Warrnambool it was a tough run and harder to pick our best three,” she said.
