Tour of the Great South Coast begins tomorrow in SA
MORE than 100 of Australia’s best up-and-coming cyclists have flocked to the region and tomorrow will kick start another exciting edition of the Tour of the Great South Coast.
The 500-kilometre, eight-stage cycling extravaganza, begins tomorrow with the opening stage in Mount Gambier and will eventually conclude in Portland on Sunday (September 1).
The action begins in Mount Gambier, travels along the coast of Port MacDonnell, heads inland to Naracoorte before crossing the border between South Australia and Victoria.
Competition will then take the cyclists through Heywood and Casterton on Friday before heading to Cape Bridgewater on Saturday and finally concluding in the heart of Portland on Sunday.
Last year’s tour winner was Bennelong Swiss Wellness rider Ayden Toovey, who won ahead of German rider Raphael Freienstein, who raced for Inform Make and was the winner of the Portland criterium in a nail-biting finish.
Racing with Subaru Anchor Point Racing, former Portlander Dylan Lindsey will once again contest the event, joined by Hamilton’s Jack Aitken as a part of the seven-man team.
