Tourist group really could be one of a kind
WHEN the Portland Tourist Association went looking for ways it could improve its services to its 140 members, it thought the best way would be to see what other such groups were doing around the state.
The only problem was those groups were hard to find.
PTA president Dennis Carr outlined the problem to members at the annual meeting, held at Quest Portland on Tuesday night.
“We’ve been ringing around different places and what we’ve found is there’s no independent tourism (organisations) like what we’ve got,” he said.
“They’re either run by councils or organised by organisations like (Great Ocean Road Regional Tourism).
“We should be proud of ourselves that we’re a separate independent tourism committee.”
