Unders crush finals rivals
PORTLAND’S preparation for the upcoming Hampden Football League under-18.5 finals went to another level on Saturday, blitzing Camperdown in front of an ecstatic home crowd.
With just two rounds remaining in the home and away season, Portland and Camperdown, both sitting inside the top three, went head-to-head at Hanlon Park in a one-sided affair.
The Tigers got on top early and refused to relent as the contest went on, marching home for an 8.13 (61) to 3.4 (22) victory.
Portland set the tempo of the contest early, crashing into the contest and slamming through three goals amid a flood of attacking opportunities in the first term and held the travelling Magpies to a single goal in reply.
Despite some issues with accuracy, Portland extended this advantage even further in the second quarter, setting up a 28-point hold on the match shortly before the main break.
