Hockley takes home another best and fairest
PLAYING coach Lauren Hockley has taken out Portland’s open grade netball best and fairest trophy after another stellar year in the goal circle.
Hockley has led the young side from the front this year with their tough run in the Hampden Netball League boosted by some impressive junior talent.
After being a huge part of Portland’s netball scene for a number of years Hockley said this year was great to see some up and coming talent at the club.
“It’s always an honour to get awards like these but I was hoping some of the other girls might pip me at the end,” Hockley said following the club’s presentation night on Thursday.
“I was hoping to step back to goal shooter a bit this year and coach from there but it was good to be out at goal attack and do what I needed to for the team.
“It’s been great watching the team build during the season and watch the margins come down later in the year.
“We were one of the top four teams when it came to shooting so people felt we were still a threat when they came up against us.
“Being a new team and the girls coming together the way they did was really good.”
