It’s official – Portland, Hamilton juniors to merge
THE new Greater South West Junior Football League (GSWJFL) will be self-governed by the executive committee and not the AFL Western District Regional Administration Centre (RAC), following feedback from clubs.
The AFL Western District South West Junior Review final report was released on Wednesday with the change in governing bodies highlighting a list of 29 final determinations.
The executive committee will include an independent chairperson, a league secretary/administrator, two representatives from the Portland Junior Football Association (PJFA) and two from the Hamilton Kangaroos Junior Football Association (HKJFA), along with one South West District Football Netball League (SWDFNL) representative and an AFL Victoria Country football development manager.
The independent chairperson has been decided by AFL Western District with Lee Kelly (the current Portland Junior Football Association president) taking on the role while Portland’s Daisy-Ann Skinner will have the role of league secretary/administrator.
There had been significant interest in aligning the GSWJFL within the SWDFNL, but both Portland and Hamilton Kangaroos associations were against the idea, despite the new junior competition including a team from both Heywood and Heathmere.
