New focus on local passions
LOCAL photographer Dean Koopman has set his sights on the devoted volunteers, keen hobbyists and enthusiastic members of the community for his proposed book, Passions of Portland.
With more than 33 years in the photography business, Mr Koopman wants to capture the more spirited and vigorous locals.
“Whether you work in a shed, skateboard, volunteer for CWA, I’m looking for passion,” Mr Koopman said.
“It doesn’t matter if you have money or not, passion happens regardless of everything else; it pushes itself to the surface.”
The photographer has published works, including a series of images of his trip to Northern Australia, he said.
“I find making books rewarding.
“I recently finished a book on life along the Stuart Hwy.
“I rode my Harley from Portland to Darwin along the highway and captured many different aspects of life along the way.
“I shoot in a style called ‘social documentary’, which is similar to print photography for a newspaper, but I aim to evoke a unique mood.”
Mr Koopman said anyone who wishes to be a part of the project can email firstname.lastname@example.org.
