Not something you buy off the shelf…
ASK Don Errey why he’s spent more than $100,000 and months of his own time building a cable tram, and the answer is simple.
“How many people are in a position to do something like this,” he said.
“Not too many.”
And the beneficiary of the retired businessman’s generosity of money and time and skill will be the public, with the tram to join the fleet at Portland Cable Trams.
The third grip car in the fleet’s history, and the second Mr Errey has been involved with, it has been 14 months in the making at a shed in central Portland.
The work has been led by Mr Errey, 83, and mechanic Lou McKay, 77, who is in charge of maintenance at Portland Cable Trams.
