Gardens to impress
MUCH of Australia is in drought at the moment, but Portland remains protected from well below average rainfall, and local gardeners and farmers are benefiting from it.
Happily, Rotary Club of Portland Bay members have been able to turn our good fortune to improve the lot of one drought-affected community.
Four beautiful gardens that some local families have been able to nurture will be on display next Saturday, October 26, when they can be viewed during the Rotary Club of Portland Bay’s open gardens day.
Visitors will be welcomed to two Cashmore and two Portland gardens between 10am and 4pm.
Patsy Moore from Rotary Portland Bay said money raised from the day will go towards the Rotary Club of Bairnsdale’s Farmer’s Relief Project.
The Bairnsdale region has been in drought for four years, so the club had assisted – thanks to the support of other Rotary Clubs as well as through plenty of goodwill – with cash and in-kind support valued at $90,000.
