Hard-hitting Withers begins season with a bang
COMPETITION for the Hamilton District Cricket Association’s 2019-20 season kicked off on Saturday and for Portlander Jordi Withers, the campaign is off a cracking start.
18-year-old Withers has begun his second season with the Grampians Cricket Club and on Saturday lined up against Byaduk at Dunkeld for a season opening one-dayer.
Byaduk batted first, setting a total of 134 to chase, and Grampians, championed by a century from Withers, got the job done with ease.
Withers, batting at number three, arrived at the crease with the score at 1-6 and was never dismissed, reaching the end of the innings at 121 not out.
The unbeaten century featured 12 fours and one six and guided Grampians to a comfortable victory at 4-223.
Withers enters his second season within the Hamilton competition as the league’s reigning Cricketer of the Year, having won the P.F. Christie Medal after scoring 684 runs at an average of 52.60.
