Land in the headlines again
A SMALL piece of Portland land surrounded by a bigger block that was the scene of a court battle earlier this decade is likely to be sold by Glenelg Shire Council.
Councillors agreed during the closed session of a recent council meeting to sell 162 sq m in two lots on New St, near the Henty Hwy (Ring Rd) intersection, to Lord Buddha Pty Ltd “for a sale price at or above market value”.
That company, based in the Melbourne suburb of Camberwell, owns all the land surrounding the lots.
The lots the council wants to sell form a triangular piece of land with no frontage to New St and with potential access issues.
The issue is similar to one on the diagonally opposite corner, the former Claymac Ford site, which the council earlier this year resolved to sell a “leftover” piece of land to the owner of the adjoining lots.
Like that site, several parcels of land were created during the Henty Hwy alignment in the 1970s and the titles issued to the former Country Roads Board.
