South recruits two internationals for 2019-20
THE Portland and District Cricket Association’s 2019-20 home and away season begins this weekend and South Portland will take to the field in A grade fielding two international visitors.
After returning home for a handful of months during the English summer to visit friends and family, fast bowler Ash Turney has arrived back in Australia and is ready and raring to go ahead of a second season down under with the Demons.
This time around he’s brought a friend – with Liam Walker joining Turney at South Portland for the upcoming season.
The PDCA’s season begins this Saturday and Turney has been elevated to South Portland’s captain and said both he and Walker were champing at the bit to get started.
“I had decided before the end of last season that I was going to come back and it was a pretty easy decision to make,” Turney said.
“It was good to go home and see my family and friends and play a bit of cricket too.
“This summer I want to see the team do a lot better than last year and I think we definitely will.
“We look a fair bit stronger across the board and I think we’re going to push hard in most games.”
