COVID CLAIMS LOCAL
THE death of a former Casterton man from COVID-19 has sparked a call for compassion and greater care in the community.
The Department of Health and Human Services confirmed the man in his 50s, whose illness was connected to the COVID-19 outbreak that started in Portland mid-July, lost his battle with the virus on Thursday afternoon.
Casterton’s Bev Mitchem (McCombe) grew up with the man’s family and said it was wrong for the community to focus on “who’s to blame”.
“This is an absolute tragedy for the family and the community, it is so sad … it just shows that it can happen to you, you can’t be too careful,” Ms Mitchem said.
